Modification of CuO–ZrO2–ZnO Mixed Oxide Catalyst with Mn, Ga, Ni: Impact on Physicochemical Properties and Hydrogen Production via Low Temperature Steam Reforming of Ethanol

Abstract The influence of CuO/ZrO 2 /ZnO (Cu/Zr/Zn) catalyst modification with Mn, Ni, Ga on the physicochemical properties and activity toward hydrogen production in steam reforming ethanol (SRE) reaction has been evaluated. increase yield lowest selectivity to acetaldehyde were observed upon Cu/Zr/Zn Mn Ga. characterisation spent catalysts revealed changes phase compositions reducibility. In case Cu/Zr/Zn, Cu/Zr/Zn/Ni Cu/Zr/Zn/Ga catalysts, CuO was reduced metallic Cu O. Therefore, these exhibited lower reduction degree (Rd) comparison fresh catalysts. On other hand, addition preserved copper + oxidation state during SRE as indicated by XRD XPS. µRaman experiments showed that carbon deposit is formed only surface catalyst, which reason for vast deactivation total this SRE. This also supported XPS additionally interaction containing by-products active sites. synthesised no formation stated. Graphical
